Rameshwaram & Dhanushkodi (Last Land of India)

Pamban Bridge
Rameshwaram & Dhanushkodi:
So I had planned both places for 2 days on my another solo travel 🤩. And I was too excited for it to see the pamban bridge and Dhanushkodi (last land of India)

Rameshwaram, is one of the famous Char Dham of India, having years old temples and many sacred ponds (Teertham).

Dhanushkodi (a must visit town) :

Dhanushkodi an Island which will definitely leave you stunned with its natural beauty, Also known as last land of India, which is approx 20 km away from Rameshwaram and further from Dhanushkodi, Srilanka is just 17 km away.

It has cleanest beaches ⛱️ with blue water, great View from Pamban Bridge, Shri Ram Setu view point and many other things, so much history behind it and much more to explore here.

Visiting this natural beauty of islands will be really an unforgettable experience.

Attractions & Travel Plan:

Below are the places which I have covered, however I have added all these places in Google map link which is shared later in this blog in Day wise travel plan 🙂.
Spatika lingam Darshan at main temple, Agni Teertham, 22 Sacred kund, Sri Ramanathaswamy Temple (a Shiva temple and one of the 12 Jyotirlinga temples), Ramar PadamPanchmukhi Hanuman Temple, Swami Vivekanand memorial house, Abdul Kalam House and Memorial, Jata Teertham and few other places when go to Dhanushkodi.
Dhanushkodi ruins of church & railway station, Dhanushkodi beach.

And yes, floating stones too can be seen in Panchmukhi Hanuman temple, Rameshwaram and also in Dhanushkodi Anjaneyar temple near ruins of Dhanushkodi railway station.

Day-2 travel plan

So 1st day, you cover Rameshwaram main temple and other nearby attractions in Rameshwaram as per above link shared as Day-1 travel plan and in evening you can go to Pamban Bridge for watching beautiful Sunset.

For Darshan at Sri Ramanathaswamy Temple:

First of all, you need to take a dip in the sea at the Rameswaram beach (called as Agni Teertham). Then, you must go to the temple to proceed for bath at 22 wells where at each well you will be poured a bucket of water by the staff. And this will be surely a memorable experience. They will charge some small amount for it.  After this, Change your clothes in the changing rooms. And then you go to the main temple for darshan.

When you go to temple you have to remove footwear, deposit mobiles and extra bags also in the locker, but make sure to keep some money always with you, as this will be needed to buy prasadam or for offering or for buying anything.

If time allows you, then go for Spatika lingam Darshan in main temple which is only in morning from 5:00 AM to 6:00 AM. Spatika Lingam is a Shivlinga made of Gemstone. You have to get in lines as early as 4:00 AM for Darshan.

2nd Day, you can leave for Dhanushkodi in morning around 7-8 AM, just after breakfast. It takes around 40-50 min to reach Dhanushkodi from Rameshwaram.

Afternoon, Dhanushkodi becomes very hot so prefer to reach Morning and then spend few hours there at beach, at ruins and do some shopping, various seashell craft options are available and come back to Rameshwaram afternoon and explore remaining places as per above link shared as Day-2 travel plan

Also Dhanushkodi get closed after 5 pm, so no entry after that and no stay option also there.

Planning to Travel Rameshwaram?

Prefer to reach Rameshwaram by train, As train journey becomes more thrilling at Pamban rail bridge, when train runs at very slow speed on narrow bridge and almost takes approx 20 min just to cover 2 km of distance to cross the bridge. During this time you will really enjoy the views at slow moving train.

Although there is road bridge also, so you can go through personal vehicle or bus also. That is your choice.

For sightseeing in Rameshwaram and Dhanushkodi, you can choose bus options or cab, you can enquire at Hotel wherever you stay, they all provide option to show you around.

However I have roamed and explored all the places of Rameshwaram and Dhanushkodi by rental scooty 😁. It was super fun.

Best Time to Visit Rameshwaram:

October to March is good time to visit.
