Mysore- A vibrant City

Mysore Palace at Night
Mysore (Karnataka, India) is a really beautiful, colorful and happening city. I liked the city so much that I visited it twice in a month.

The main attraction in Mysore is Mysore Palace.

Mysore Palace, a historical Palace and Royal Residence used to be the official residence of the Wadiyar Dynasty. Mysore is called the City of Palace. Mysore has 7 more palaces, including this one.

Prime attraction at Mysore Palace is "Sound and Light show" which is held in the evenings. Palace is illuminated with lights every day.

You have to make yourself available from 7 PM to 8 PM to avoid missing Sound and Light show.

Mysore Palace
One must visit Mysore once during Dasara (Dussehra) Festival and, streets of the city look so beautiful at night when illuminated with lights.

During Dasara festival, in Palace approx 100,000 light bulbs are lighted in the evening and various cultural programs are organised in front of the Palace.

Mysore a royal city has many places to visit. Also, if you have more days, then you can get a big list of many other good spots in and around Mysore.

Ideally for Mysore trip atleast 3-4 days are required to cover the attractions of Mysore city only.

Attractions

Mysore palace, Jaganmohan palace, Lalita Mahal palace, Shukavana, Rail Museum, St. Philomena's Cathedral Church, Chamundi hill temple, Brindavan Garden.

Lalita Mahal palace: Now this Palace has been converted into Heritage Hotel. So if you not staying in this Hotel, still can go and visit the palace. One has to get a ticket of 100 rs, where you will get Tea and cookies and you can visit only the ground floor of the palace.

Chamundeshwari Temple is on Chamundi hills, some 12-13 km from Mysore. Going early in the morning is very good. There is some point on the hills from where whole Mysore city is visible. It is awesome, riding scooty on these hills in pleasant weather around 6:30 AM in the morning to reach the temple. Road to the top of the hill is good and less traffic, and gives scenic views. You can see clouds and sometimes drizzling and feel fresh air.

Brindavan Garden, definitely a must-visit place when you are in Mysore, it is some 20 km from Mysore city centre.
Good time to visit the garden, is if you arrive around 4 PM and stay till 8 PM, so that you can enjoy the garden view in Daylight first and then further attend the Light and fountain music show also.
Make sure after 8 PM, you have some vehicle arrangement to return back to city. As after 8 PM you will not easily find any public conveyance.

Also some more places near Mysore:  Srirangpatna, Nanjangud, Madikeri (Coorg).
To cover these👆 place further needed 2-3 days atleast.

Srirangpatna, town which is some 20 km from Mysore. This also offers many attractions:
Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple, Nimishambha Temple, Dariya daulat bagh, Jama masjid, Tipu sultan's death place......
Also near the olden time Prison, there is a river. so sitting there and relaxing is too good and peaceful. Some people take a bath also there. Atleast 1 full day can be spent here easily.

Nanjangud- 23 km from Mysore. Many temples are here, but due to lack of time I visited only 1 main temple which is famous with the name Nanjangud temple.

Madikeri(coorg)Golden temple/Tibetan monasteries and Cauvery Nisargadhama.

Golden temple/Tibetan monasteries: It is one of the largest Tibetan settlements in India. A large number of Tibetans live inside the monasteries.
Nisargadhama: is a forest park and a good place to relax in the lap of nature and you can enjoy river rafting too. In Nisargadhama, you can enjoy and spend almost whole day peacefully.

Best Time to Visit Mysore:

October to February. Weather is really pleasant during this period.
